AboutFollowing a career as a professional snowboarder Marcus transitioned into magazine and online editing, and most recently fitness and sports coaching. Marcus’s sporting background and passion covers a wide spectrum; a road and mountain bike cyclist, an ex-triathlete, a keen runner, surfer, still tries to snowboard likes he’s twenty and loves training in the gym to be ready for whatever life throws at him - including two very lively young kids!
In 2012, Marcus started working with the mental health charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) after his best friend, Nelson Pratt, took his life. Nelson was an exceptionally talented professional snowboarder and freestyle coach to Olympic bronze medalist, Jenny Jones. Following Nelson’s death, Nelson’s brother and Marcus set up a cycle sportive in his honour called Nelson’s Tour de Test Valley. They wanted to create something positive from such a tragic story, help raise awareness of the issue and reduce stigma surrounding mental health. The event is now in its 9th year with a thousand riders every year hitting the tarmac and has raised over half a million pounds for CALM. Marcus is now a proud Trustee & Director of CALM. Marcus is hugely passionate about using sport and its scientific health benefits to boost our own day to day physical & mental health, now more than ever. He currently trains a number of clients in Harrogate, from keen cyclists to Mum's & Dads wanting to maximise their training effect in their time precious, hectic schedules. The Fitness Rooms offers the perfect private, progressive and friendly training space to achieve this. Marcus is a qualified Master Trainer with the European Institute of Fitness, a REPs Level 3 Trainer, ACSM Nutrition Coach, holds a diploma in Sports Coaching and an embarrassing try hard Dad.
